YELLOW ROSE FIRING RANGE HANDGUN CARRY LICENCE CLASSES Oklahoma Self-Defense Act Note: This is not a beginner's course, student must know the proper use and handling of a firearm. |
This class is taught by O.S.B.I. (Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation) approved and C.L.E.E.T. (Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training) certified Handgun Carry Licence instructor. The course is as prescribed by the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act (Title 21, Oklahoma Statutes, Section 1290.1 et seg.) to meet the educational requirements to qualify for an Oklahoma Handgun Carry License. The course is one day, 8 hours, with a written exam and live firing.
COURSE FEE: The fee is $80. $ 40.00 Deposit for each seat (non refundible).
All classes must be reserved before the date of the class you are taking.
All email inquiries must include a postal address and/or telephone number where you may be contacted by the course instructor. Click here to print out an application to mail in to reserve your place in the class. Application must be mailed to course instructor at least 60 days before the scheduled date of the class you want to attend. If less than 60 days to the desired class email Course Instructor with your name and a phone number where you can be reached day and/or evening, plus the desired class date you wish to attend.

All classes at the Yellow Rose Firing Range will begin at 8:00 AM sharp and end at approximately 4:30 PM depending on number of students. Times are subject to change without notice. There may be additional classes scheduled depending on demand.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
You must be a United States Citizen and have a Oklahoma Drivers License or Oklahoma State ID (this will constitute proof of current legal residency in the state of Oklahoma). Be at least 21 years of age. (Note: You may take the course before age 21, but may not submit an application before age 21). Complete an approved training course administered by an approved instructor and make proper application or provide proof of exemption. Course live firing must be done with approved weapon of caliber between .22 and .45. (Note: To qualify to carry a semi-automatic, you must shoot the live fire portion with a semi-automatic pistol.)
REQUIRED CLASSROOM EQUIPMENT:
The following are items to bring with you to the classroom portion of the course:
1. Paper - for taking notes.
2. A pencil with eraser (required for taking the exam) and an ink pen with black ink.
3. A valid Oklahoma Driver's license or Oklahoma Photo Identification Card.
4. Lunch - Time requirements set by C.L.E.E.T. and the distance to the nearest eating establishment will allow enough time for students to leave the range to obtain lunch. If you do not bring your own lunch.
REQUIRED RANGE EQUIPMENT:
The following equipment is required by C.L.E.E.T. You will not be allowed on the range if you do not have the following:
1. Eye protection - You can buy eye protection at any gun shop or the sporting goods department at WalMart . Tempered glass or impact-resistant plastic prescription glasses are acceptable.
2. Ear protection - Either ear muffs (the shooting kind, not the cold weather kind) or sponge ear plugs. These can also be bought at any gun shop or the sporting goods department of WalMart.
3. A baseball cap - These can be purchased anywhere. The baseball cap is necessary to prevent hot brass casings from falling behind your eye protection.
4. Your pistol - Revolver or semi-automatic. If you shoot the course with a revolver, you will have to take a semi-automatic upgrade administered by an approved instructor to qualify to carry a semi-automatic. Students that do not have their own pistol can rent one from the Yellow Rose Firing Range.
5. Ammunition for your pistol - 50 rounds of ammunition is required. The ammunition MUST BE NEW FACTORY AMMUNITION ONLY! Home reloads, remaufactured reloads and any other reloads of any kind are not acceptableand you will not be allowed to shoot your qualifier rounds with them.
NO STEEL JACKETED, STEEL SHOT OR STEEL CORE BULLETS permitted.
No tracer, incendiary, gas or explosive ammunition permitted.
GENERAL ITEMS:
The following are items you should be aware of regarding the Handgun Carry Course:
1. Make sure you have plenty of time to reach the class. Tardiness and absenteeism WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. You must be on time for the class and attend all the portions of the course. If you are late or have to leave the class, you will have to be rescheduled for a course at a later date.
2. The SDA instructor may remove any student from the class at any time.
3. If at any time any student demonstrates behavior in the classroom or on the range that the SDA instructor deems inappropriate or unsafe, that student will be asked to leave the class.
4. Your pistol should be in good condition and operable. An SDA instructor will inspect your pistol before use. If the instructor deems the firearm unsafe, you will not be allowed to qualify with it.
5. The maximum caliber allowed is .45. Do not use a derringer for your range qualification shooting, or you will have to take an upgrade course administered by a qualified instructor to carry anything besides a derringer. Same rule applies if you shoot and qualify with a revolver.
6. Students must score 70% (11 of 15) on the written exam. If you fail, you will not be allowed to proceed to the range portion of the course.
7. If you have to leave the course for a legitimate emergency, the instructor will work with you to resolve the problems and reschedule you for a later course.
8. Dress appropriately for the weather conditions the day of the class as shooting portion of class is indoors, can be hot or cold.
